Entertain them

One of the best standbys for when you want to give your springer something to keep them occupied for awhile is a Kong.

One of the simplest recipes is your springers normal dry food.

Just add hot water to it, let it stand for a minute or two, then mash it up with a fork.

Once you’ve mashed it all up, getting rid of any lumps, spoon it in to the Kong, pressing it down with the back of a teaspoon or what ever you find easiest to use.

Now you can either give it to your springer as a treat or a distraction, or as we do pop it in the freezer till it’s needed.

Freezing the Kong does have the advantage of making them last longer, and are cool treat on warm summer day.

You can experiment with fillings, left over cheese, ham, pasta, carrots and other vegetables can all be used, make sure what you do use is safe for dogs though and be aware that some foods do contain salt.

And don’t forget to subtract any treats you’ve fed from your springers main meals, your springer will thank you for keeping his waist line slim.
